Technology & Media Use

The Internet and the Arts: How new technology affects old aesthetics

4/22/2008 | PresentationPresentation  | Mary Madden

Presented to Chicago Wallace Audience Engagement Network

In the age of user-generated content and participatory media, can we all just sit back and watch our audience garden grow? What is the state of Web 2.0 in the arts world today?

As arts organizations consider expanding their presence online and connecting with audiences on their own terms, they often need data to make tough decisions about how to spend limited budgets and human resources on developing new media strategies. Research conducted by The Pew Internet & American Life Project examines the growing role of technology in our lives, our changing expectations about how to find and use information, and the impact younger generations will have on the arts audience of the future.
